Rickmers-Line is renowned for its innovative
Round-the-World Pearl String Service with a unique concept
offering fortnightly sailings, fast transit times and
reliable schedules. With the establishment of its Pearl
String Service, the company has revolutionised the shipment
of heavy-lift and project cargoes by enabling customers to
plan their cargo flows more easily.
The Pearl String Service is served by ten identical
30,000 dwt purpose-built Superflex Heavy Multi-Purpose
Container (MPC) ships, which were designed primarily with
project cargo in mind. The vessels are equipped with four
large cranes, the two heaviest of which can be twinned for
a lifting capacity of up to 640 tonnes. The main hatches
are 32 m in length to allow long loads to be accommodated
below deck. Adjustable tweendecks enhance space utilisation
for cargo with varied cargo height. Furthermore, a
dehumidifying system controls the air in all holds,
ensuring protection from condensation for all types of
The Pearl String service is complemented by a
regular liner service from Europe to the Middle East and
India and vice versa, as well as the new Westbound
Round-The-World Service which was inaugurated in March
2013, connecting Asia, South America, North America and
Rickmers-Line constantly strives to improve service
quality and to increase overall efficiency. This has
inspired the company to develop a software solution that
changes stowage planning and cargo management completely.
Cargo items are digitalised to a realistic CAD model for
the simulation of cargo lifting, handling and bedding on
our vessels – for the benefit of an optimised cargo flow
with a reduced risk of damage to the cargo. The lashing
module of RICOSYS has been approved by Germanischer Lloyd.
Rickmers-Line is represented worldwide by eighteen own
